"The best-laid plans of any theatergoer should include a trip to Theatre Banshee to see what it looks like when small theatres dare to dream big." - Studio City Sun

Theatre Banshee presents John Steinbeck's American classic - Of Mice and Men. A pair of itinerant workers struggle through the Great Depression clinging to their friendship and the dream of buying a little place of their own. But when they take up work on a California ranch, their dreams — "like the best laid schemes of mice and men" — go tragically awry.

George and his gentle giant of a friend, Lennie, endure as an iconic duo, embraced by audiences, students and critics alike. Of Mice and Men remains one of Steinbeck's most popular, controversial and extraordinarily moving works. Enjoy one of California's greatest writers greatest works live on The Banshee stage.

Pre-Emptive Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What the heck? I thought you guys only did Irish plays.
A: We'll do great plays wherever we can find them. This will be Banshee's first production of a classic American drama.

Q: How come this play gets banned from schools and libraries?
A: While Of Mice and Men is considered a classic and is taught in schools throughout the English speaking world, some people do find reasons to be upset by it. The American Library Association places it high on its list of Challenged Books, citing objections to its: vulgar language, racial insensitivity, anti-business sentiments and promotion of euthenasia. We think such objections utterly miss the point of Steinbeck's profound look at our human need for a place to call home and someone to share it with. Don't take someone else's word for it; come see it and decide for yourself if it's the kind of art that should be kept out of schools and libraries.

Q: Will I get extra-credit for seeing it?
A: If you're a student, you might. Ask your teacher. If you're not a student, you probably wont.

Q: Is it suitable for children?
A: Due to strong language, violence and disturbing themes we recommend the play for ages 12 and up.
